Kick-Off Summer with an ERP Project

By Kassi Burke

Happy July from the Visibility Team! Did you know summer is one of the best times to kick off an ERP project?

The past few months have tested us all in both our personal and work lives. Families have had to adjust to no school and no childcare and workplaces have had to implement social distancing and proper sanitation on the shop floor as well as remote work whenever possible.

How was the transition for your company? It’s safe to say that most if not all companies experienced a few bumps along the way, but a modern ERP solution could have made the transition a little smoother. As life in many regions begins to return to normal, is it time for an upgrade?

Why Summer?

Many companies experience a lull in activity during the summer months which allows for more time to be dedicated to researching potential vendors, evaluating business needs, developing an implementation plan, and training and testing once a solution is implemented.

Time to Upgrade

Are customer needs being met? In today’s fast-moving world, customers want direct access to sales data and more. An older system may not have this capability and customers may get frustrated with having to put in customer service calls to get basic data on order status.

Has your business outgrown your ERP system’s capabilities? ERP systems should be scalable and able to grow with your business. If you feel like your ERP system isn’t keeping up then it’s time to find a different solution that would better fit your growing organization.

Are decisions being made in a timely manner? One of the primary reasons to invest in a robust ERP system is to have business intelligence at your fingertips. If you have to spend a lot of time looking up data, it’s time for a change. Modern ERP solutions should offer real-time information displayed through KPIs and detailed reports so that informed business decisions can be instant.

Some other signs that it’s time to look into a new solution could be unsupported software, employees being unhappy with the software, and not keeping up with the changing industry regulations to name a few.

Conclusion

The fight against COVID-19 isn’t over yet, but we can use this summer lull to evaluate our business needs and to determine if a new ERP system would be beneficial in this new work environment we are all navigating. Don’t let another season go by without making the necessary changes to improve your business! Summer 2020 is one for growth, change, and prosperity.
