When to Upgrade Your ERP

By Jackie Aldrich

The idea of upgrading to a new ERP system can be a daunting thought when you consider all the time and financial resources that go into an ERP project. An upgraded ERP system can lead to increased efficiency and productivityand also reduced costs. Not all roadblocks mean you should jump ship, however, as there are three signs it might be worth the investment in the long run.

Reason 1: Customer Needs Aren’t Being Met

Customers are the number one priority for any organizationso when an ERP system can’t meet customer needs you certainly have a big problem. In today’s fast-moving world, customers want direct access to sales data and more. An older system may not have this capability and customers may get frustrated with having to put in customer service calls just to get basic data on their order status.

Reason 2: You’ve Outgrown Your Existing ERP System

Maybe your ERP system worked for your organization when you first invested, but your business is starting to quickly outgrow the capabilities of it now. ERP systems should be scalable. If you start to notice that growing maintenance fees and license fees are adding up as your organization grows, it may be time to look at the bottom line and to see if a different ERP system would better fit your growing organization better

Reason 3: Decisions Are Taking Too Long to Make

One of the main reasons to invest in a robust ERP system is to be able to make business intelligence informed decisions quickly. If you have to spend lots of time looking for up-to-date informationit’s time to upgrade your ERP system. Modern ERP systems should offer real-time information displayed through KPIs and detailed reports that let you know what aspects of your business are working and what aspects are not so you can make educated decisions in a timely manner.

Conclusion

These are just a few of the many reasons it may be time to change or upgrade your ERP system. Other reasons might include unsupported software, employees being unhappy with the software, and not keeping up with changing industry regulations to name a few. If you’re interested in improving your ERP system, get in touch with us here at Visibility!
